Due to the unique characteristics and limited class size of our program, it is imperative that we enroll students who will thrive in our open campus and easily adjust to the daily schedule required. Our enrollment criteria include:

The child’s age (Students must be at least 3.5 by the first day of the session to apply for Mondays, 4.5 for Tuesdays, and 5 or Thursdays — unless previously discussed.)
The child’s independence levels (bathroom, taking on/off coat, gloves, etc.) Bathroom independence is of upmost importance. We ask that only children who have been fully potty trained for over 6 months apply. Bathroom independence and awareness is crucial because we are often across campus from the portapotty facilities. With just one adult present, changing clothes after an accident would degrade the quality of care for the class.
The child’s ability to follow guidance and make safe choices in potentially dangerous activities or environments.
The child's ability to learn and honor consent regarding other's bodies and belongings.

Required Clothing:

Due to the nature of our program, it is imperative that children are dressed appropriately. Students have a much more enjoyable outdoor school experience when they have the correct gear.

GUG is a member of the Nature School Wholesale program through Oakiwear, and we submit at least 3 orders throughout the year. Families receive 50% off their retail prices and orders include a 10% shipping fee.

Ideally, every GUG student will have access to the following items based on the sessions they attend:

Closed-toed sandals/shoes and sun hat
One piece rain suit or rain pants and rain coat
Fleece jacket
Neoprene boots
Light rain boots
Wool socks
Finger gloves
Waterproof gloves/mittens-

Waterproof snow top and bottoms
Snow boots
Warm beanie hat that covers the ears
Base layers
