Frequently Asked Questions
Question: Do you have animals on site?
Answer: Across the street from the school we have 2 mini Nubian goats and a Kunekune pig who we occasionally visit.
Question: Do you provide food for students?
Answer: No. Children will bring their own lunch and snack daily. Due to allergies and food restrictions/diets, children are not allowed to share food from their lunches or snacks with anyone else.
Question: Are you an approved Harmony vendor for participating homeschool students?
Answer: Yes! Please enroll your child as usual and submit your reimbursement forms to Harmony for your stipend.
Question: Do you accept the Best Beginnings Scholarship?
Answer: Because we do not qualify as a childcare facility, we cannot accept Best Beginnings.
Question: If I'm enrolling numerous children, do I need to fill out individual Enrollment Forms after registering for a class?
Answer: Yes, but once you've completed the full form for one child, you only need to fill out the additional child's name, birthday, and any specifics solely pertaining to that child.
Question: Is there a waiting list if the class I'm wanting is full? Could I still possibly enroll?
Answer: Yes. Email or text Jacole with your situation and we may be able to get you added to the class or add you to the waitlist for cancellations.
Question: What if I register for a class and am unable to attend?
Answer: Email or text Jacole in advance. If there is a waiting list for the class and we're able to enroll someone else, we can credit your account.
Question: Do you offer any type of tuition trades?
Answer: Yes! While we don't offer too many trade options, our School Helpers Tuition Trade program allows families to volunteer for various jobs around the school campus in exchange for a reduction in their tuition. The most common job is feeding the animals and caring for the garden various times throughout the year. These times will typically be during the summer months before school begins and on weekends or during session breaks throughout the school year. Assisting with harvesting/ planting food and helping with school construction projects are also part of this trade opportunity. Please email Jacole to express interest!
Question: Do children need specific clothing for Nature School?
Answer: Yes. Please see the full list on our Enrollment Criteria page.
Question: What are your safety and emergency guidelines?
Answer: Spending our days primarily outdoors allows for amazing learning opportunities, but also includes an enhanced level of risk. All memberships require signing a liability release form and understanding the risks of attending outdoor school. While we always exercise reasonable caution and vigilance to avoid danger, there will be some unavoidable risks of scrapes, bruises, insect bites, and other minor injuries that can occur in nature. If a child is unable to keep themselves and others safe or refuses to follow our consent policy, they may be asked to discontinue attending our program. All staff are first aid and CPR certified. First Aid kits are available throughout the property. We have a cell phone with us at all times as a way for us to contact parents (and vice-versa) should the need arise. If an accident occurs at school, parents will be contacted as soon as possible. Emergency contacts will be called if we are unable to reach parents. All parental contact, medical information, and emergency contact numbers will be available at all times in the event an emergency does occur. Although there are many times we will only have 1 adult on-site, the property owners (Travis’s parents) are just across the road on Miller Creek and are available to help with any immediate needs should they arise.
Question: What is your policy for devices and technology? Does GUG use any AI components?
Answer: We are a device free school and ask that students leave all devices/ smart watches, etc at home or in their backpack. Please text Jacole if you need to communicate with your child. We will always notify you via call or text if any issues arise that need your immediate attention. Growing Up Green has an ethical commitment to avoid AI usage.
